Alpha 0.3.1 - Setting up the pieces

The past few updates have been about either adding swathes of content or implementing quick fixes, but with the game being where it is now - that is, creeping up on the closed beta phase - this patch is doing something a bit different. It's a veritable grab-bag of features I've been putting off until "some day," with the overall goal of getting the game as ready and presentable as possible for an upcoming Steam wishlist page. With the preamble out of the way, what's new?

Intro cinematic - Exactly what it sounds like. Establishes the basic premise of the game in about a minute.

Keybind menu - From the the main menu, you can now rebind... MOST key commands. I realized JUST while writing this that the map key (M) and pause (Escape) are still missing,

Volume Sliders - I needed something on the left of the logo to balance out the menu's composition.

Two bosses swapped - Disregarding a LITTLE bit of thematic cohesion being broken, the bosses "Ellie" and "Anarchonda" have had their positions in progression swapped. Ellie was probably the hardest boss in Riverland Valley and Anarchonda was the freest win in the entire game.

Spiky oversight fixed - Using either of the porcupine-themed torso pieces would crash the game if you took damage from certain sources. As far as has been discovered so far, that makes the only crashing bug squashed.

Setpieces - The feature... uh... FEATURE of this patch, and one I've discussed previously. While wandering in levels, you'll now have a chance of encountering a few interesting structures and decorations. Some of them are purely aesthetic, but others will contain enemies, powerups, and even...

Treasures! - Treasures are found around some setpieces, either in chests or dropped by certain exclusive enemies. This unique category of items grant a permanent bonus effect when equipped, but you can only equip one at a time. In the final game they'll be lost on death, but for the time being, just to make it easier for testers to keep their hands on and form an opinion on them, this penalty hasn't been implemented.
